Duhos are carved seats found in the houses of Taino, Arawak and Carib caciques or chiefs throughout the Caribbean region. Duhos were literally seats of power, prestige, and ritual or also commonly used while observing ball games. While their precise functions remain somewhat a mystery- they continue to impress us with their bold abstract, and anthropomorphic form and magical associations. An important and scarce PreColumbian work of art from the Caribbean. Dimensions: 12.75" Length (deep) x 6" wide x 4.25 height. Provenance: Old Caribbean Family collection.
